3 South African Trips in One

This past year, I had the opportunity to join Mary of The Vagabond International on a wonderful trip to Africa. While I had been to Africa before, being able to explore the different regions with an expert like Mary was truly magical. And today, I am excited to share with you my favorite spots from the trip!

Capetown

Stay

The silo

(we did not actually stay here as we stayed in a house in cape town) we had lunch here and toured the facility and it was magnificent. Full of fascinating and unexpected art and color. The hotel has a view of the magnificent V&A Waterfront and all of the natural wonder of South Africa’s Mother City.

Shop

Chandler house

Chandler House is a small gallery, shop and studio located in an 18th Century Cape Georgian House in the heart of Cape Town’s bustling CBD.  Chandler House is the brainchild of Michael Chandler who opened the shop doors in the December of 2013. What began as a platform for show-casing his designs soon grew to include other inspiring, talented and hard-working Cape artists and makers. I had the pleasure of meeting and dining with Michael Chandler and the lovely Lucie D Moyencourt while in Cape Town. Two of the most talented and hysterical people I’ve ever met!

Franschhoek

Part II

Franschhoeck is the wine and gourmet capital of South Africa!

Stay, Dine & Shop

Babylonstoren

The loveliest place I have ever been. Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch Farms. Majestic gardens, wildlife, unique accommodations, fine food and wine, all of which evoke a sense of wellbeing and peace.

Singita

Any Singita property is a good idea but we stayed at Singita Castleton in Sabi Sand. Singita is the Shangaan word for “Place of Miracles” and that is exactly what it is. Never before (and likely never again) have I had such a memorable experience. You leave Signita transformed for a lifetime and having made a contribution to the legacy of Africa.
